Sculk Sensors, Shriekers and Catalysts drive every encounter in The Sift. Learn how vibration is generated, how to suppress it and how echo currency unlocks deeper layers.
The vibration loop
Every Sculk structure follows one loop: vibration → sensor → shrieker → response. Break any link and the encounter never escalates.
- Vibration is created by walking, mining, placing blocks, opening chests and projectile impacts.
- Sensors pick it up within range and forward a redstone-strength signal.
- Shriekers receive that signal and, after several triggers, summon a Warden-class response.
- Catalysts convert nearby deaths into more Sculk, expanding the hazard permanently.
Suppression techniques
Movement
Place a wool carpet path and wear wool boots. This alone removes most walking vibration and lets you cross open sculk fields without escalating anything.
Noise control
Crouch instead of sprinting, and never mine with Efficiency bursts inside documented sculk chambers. Use shears or Silk Touch picks when you must clear a block, because both produce fewer vibrations than a standard pickaxe.
Ranged safely
Arrows create impact vibration, so shoot from wool platforms and never into a room you have not mapped. Looting spirals through a chamber while standing on wool is safer than a long-range potion or arrow fight.
